St. Alban's food pantry has been in existence for more than twenty years. Currently, parishioners’ donations are distributed through a neighborhood community service center, allowing recipients to receive support in other areas of their lives, as well as receive food and a street ministry. In the past, St. Alban's parishioners regularly volunteered in various capacities for Dayspring, which was established by thirteen Episcopal churches in Indianapolis and includes a homeless shelter for fourteen families. Dayspring's co-directors are members of our congregation.
Four members of St. Alban’s congregation serve as weekly mentors at Indianapolis Public School #83 a nearby public school. Through an annual faculty retreat partnered with another church, we provide support to teachers. In the fall, parishioners provide book packs to students in need. At Christmas, families from Indianapolis Public School #83 are chosen to receive gift certificates for food and presents in our annual giving tree project.
Our grounds are used each summer by a community baseball league. Various community groups use the building, including three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, several neighborhood associations, and an association of Hoosiers of Czech and Slovak heritage. St. Alban's is a regular polling place, and a center where flu shots and health screenings have been available. Each year, St. Alban's also hosts Freetown Village summer camp.
